The majority of our weekend getaways start with crossing Lisbon's version of the Golden Gate Bridge- Ponte 25 de Abril- and it never fails to impress. We didn't time it this way on purpose, but the sun was setting as we were crossing the bridge, and was fully set by the time we reached the other side.
Of course there is the ever-visible Jesus to welcome us to the other side of the river, that if nothing else is a sight to see.
When we are on our way home again, seeing the peaks of the red towers and suspension cables always sparks cries of "we're almost home!" from the back of the car.
The real Golden Gate will always be my number one bridge, but after long and sometimes arduous family car trips, I'm always pretty darn happy to see this bridge too.

Can you actually go up into the Jesus statue?
